What if I return my new product after sending my trade-in?
Updated
If you return your new product after sending your trade-in device to Samsung, the outcome depends entirely on whether Samsung has processed your trade-in device yet.
Not processed: Your trade-in device is sent back to you automatically and the trade-in is cancelled. No request is needed.
Already processed: Your trade-in device isn’t returned, and you receive no refund or other value for the trade-in credit that was deducted from your purchase price.
If you are considering returning a new product and have already shipped your trade-in device, read this article and Samsung’s Trade-In Program Terms before starting the return.
What "Processed" Means
Your trade-in device is processed once Samsung has received it and completed the inspection that determines whether it meets the eligibility requirements. Ownership transfers to Samsung at the point a device is accepted.
You will know your device has been processed because Samsung emails you a summary of its assessed condition, up to 14 business days after receipt. See How do I track the status of my trade-in? for details.
What You Can and Can’t Get Back
Trade-in not processed | Trade-in already processed | |
Refund for the new product | Yes, under the standard return policy | Yes, under the standard return policy |
Your trade-in device returned | Yes, automatically | No |
Refund or credit for the trade-in value | No | No |
The trade-in credit isn’t refunded to you in either scenario. Returning your new product does not convert the trade-in credit into cash or store credit.
If Your Trade-In Was Rejected
A rejected device is a separate situation with its own 7-day window to request the device back, and its own chargeback. See What happens if Samsung rejects my trade-in? for details.
Returning your new product doesn’t cancel a rejection chargeback, and it doesn’t allow you to have a rejected device returned outside the 7-day window.
